»There will still be roads in 50 years’ time, I am sure of it. What will change however, is our perspective on them.

The street will no longer be primarily the habitat of cars, but will be more pedestrian and bicycle-friendly, have more space for public transport, and will be able to accommodate new forms of mobility, such as autonomous shuttles. There will be more low-traffic areas, especially in the city centre, with plenty of green space to rest, stroll and unwind.

Most of the commercial traffic that is crucial to the function of the city will be channelled along the waterways, by rail and by air. Road traffic will be regulated by a machine learning AI designed to minimise conflicts between road users. Vision Zero is becoming a reality.«
