»Can streets be beautiful? Yes, so long as we replace two-dimensional traffic lanes with three-dimensional spaces for the people of the city.

In Berlin, the network of thoroughfares (in the former West Berlin) and the networked radial roads (in the former East Berlin) offer many places that reflect the beauty of the city, and its green public spaces. For the future, they must remain the universal favourites they are today, regardless of who is using them. Their qualities can be better developed so that they become attractive destinations, rather than merely for transit.

Berlin’s streets should be regarded by future generations as urban public space (also by architects and engineers), and measured by their beauty – lined with trees and buildings and enlivened by the bustle of everyday life.«
