»Reorganise transport systems!«
Amélie Schmieding, Fridays for Future
»Nobody wants to live in a grey, dirty city, with bad air. That is why it is inexplicable to me that we live in such a place.
We need to get away from cities that were built for cars. Berlin must become liveable again. To do this, we need to rebuild Berlin’s transport systems, reorganise the city for energy-optimisation, rethink social housing and return nature to the streets.
In 50 years’ time, I would like to walk through Berlin and not hear the constant roar of cars. I would like to stand on Innsbrucker Platz, breathe in the fresh air, and sit under a tree to look over new, green social housing. Next to me are cycle paths, above me the extended S-Bahn, and on the roofs there are verdant public spaces and solar panels.«
