»Planning for the long term!«
Nicole Parlow, Co-initiator of the “Queens of Structure” network
»We can learn a lot from the history of our city to transfer it into the future. Sustainable street planning in Berlin works even 100 years later. Back then, street trees were planted and parks were created to regulate the urban climate in summer.
Wide streets offer space for diverse and mixed use. Even the cobblestones used back then are far more recyclable than any asphalt or concrete. Prussian urban planning à la Hobrecht was not only economical, but also fit for the future.
Today, as then, we have to face up to the issues of sustainability, aesthetics and economy, hence: “No panning without an engineer.”«
