»Making room for the most climate-friendly modes of transport«
Eberhard Brodhage, Regional chairman of the Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club Berlin
»Berlin, with its twelve districts and multitude of neighbourhoods, is unimaginable without effective transport systems. The streets cannot only accommodate cars, but must also channel pedestrians, cyclists, trams and buses, whilst remaining places to accommodate everyday life: strolling, shopping and socialising. Berlin must enact change now, to prevent continued suffocating caused by its cars.
For me, the Berlin of the future has a comprehensive network of safe, accessible cycle paths, including along the major arterial routes, complemented by secure bike-parking facilities at S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations. Increasing cycling infrastructure benefits all Berliners: bikes take up less space, will help reduce CO₂ emissions and offer independence. The Mobility Act of 2018 and the cycling plan set out therein remain groundbreaking for the most climate-friendly means of transport: the bicycle.«
