From traffic areas to urban spaces
Modernizing streets
In recent years, the rediscovery of the street as an urban public space has been primarily linked to the pressing challenges of the traffic turnaround and climate protection. Urban planning measures for the redistribution and reallocation of traffic areas and the topic of blue and green infrastructures are usually at the forefront of the discussion.
In order to arrive at a new system of coordinates for the conversion of the streets of tomorrow, the requirements for climate adaptation must be harmonized with the structural layout and equipment. The facades of the buildings or the first floor zones are just as much a part of this as the street furniture or the road surface.
The event highlighted key factors as to how the spatial qualities of streets can be further developed under today's traffic and environmental requirements.
