»Beautiful streets?«
Dipl.-Ing. Tobias Nöfer, Chairman of the Architekten- und Ingenieurverein zu Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.
»We know our streets only as conduits of traffic. We have forgotten how to use streets as living spaces, but why?
Most streets have been completely disfigured over time to serve individual interests: drivers, stationary metal bollards, electricity boxes, and traffic signage dominate the streetscape. This, alongside excessive architectural design, fails to create an interesting and inviting space for pedestrians.
Only when we begin to reimagine the street and its many elements, its many interests, functions, and the urban architecture that surrounds it, will the streets of Berlin be beautiful spaces for everyone to enjoy once again.«
